Reflections On Ralph Williamson’s Contributions To The Industry And Our Association
February 6 ,2024
I was saddened when I learned of Ralph Williamson’s passing. I just happened to stumble upon the notice of his Celebration of life service, randomly, online. Since I moved to Tennessee, I have not been in contact with many of you in this profession for several years now.
For those of you that don’t know me, I operated a tile contacting business in Arizona, from the mid 1980’s to 2005. Some may remember me better from our family business name, Casa Tile by Michael Gray.
I did not know Ralph Williamson well and spoke to him less than a dozen times over the years…. maybe once in person.
It is my understanding that Ralph was one of the first, if not the first recognized and credentialed tile and stone consultants in the entire Phoenix Valley and contributed to helping build the tile association in its infancy.
I attended an association meeting once in the mid 90’s as a guest. I don’t remember who invited me (possibly Bud Pennington). However, at this time in my career, I was completely focused on installing tile and the various challenges in the industry. I worked as much as! could physically handle and beyond that, because I had a young family at the time there was not much time left for otherventures such as joining the association.
My purpose in corresponding is to honor Ralph Williamson and his contribution to the tile industry, his peers, and his community.
I’d also like to express my appreciation to all those who have and are currently working to improve the tile/stone industry in the state of Arizona and who are faithful members, some long-term, of the association. You all are applauded!
With High Regard and Respect,
Michael Gray
